Club History
From TSGARC
The current club was formed in 1980 taking over the club call sign G4ABC, which was orginally used by a previous club based in Thornbury.
After a nomadic existance in a number of local halls (and pubs) we moved to our current location at the United Reform Church Hall in 1986.
We have been fortunate that we have been able to install antenna in the hall for 2m and HF bands, allowing us to operate from the hall on club nights.
We have been active over the years as a club with JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) with the Scout and Guide Associations.
Other activites have included special event stations, competions, fox hunts (Radio Direction finding exercises^^, this does not include any animals.)
We have in the past run successful courses for those joining the hobby, and continue to do this following the recent changes to the licence structure.
Due to renovation works at United Reform Church Hall in 2009 we forged closer links with Woodhouse Park Scout Radio and used their facilities. At this stage it was decided to move our permanent venue to The Chantry in Castle Street Thornbury where we are still active on 2m and HF.
^^ No radios have been hurt during our 'fox hunts'
